Simon Tuckwell

Where did you start?

2002 as a Saturday boy in London. Through my everything into hairdressing and relocated to Nottingham in 2010 after going to Download Festival and falling in love with the city. 13 years later and I’ve got two salons, a team of 50 and a lot more grey hair!

Proudest moment?

That’s a tough one to choose! But I think it would be our first award nomination as Tuckwell & Co, all that hard work and dedication to see it pay off and be recognised. I’m delighted that we have had over 70 nominations since!

Describe yourself in one word?

Impulsive

Any advice for beginners?

Whatever you do, do it to the best of your ability. If you have to fold a towel – fold it the best, sweep the floor – get it perfect, wash hair – the best hair wash that clients has ever had. It will change your outlook and attitude towards your career and you’ll enjoy it so much more

What would you change?

For me, the unnecessary fear and scaremongering being created within our industry is awful at the minute. These salon social groups have become a hive of toxicity & negativity. We should be celebrating each other not trying to take each other down. We should support each other, uplift the industry, and continue to shine as hairstylists and salon owners. Whether you’re an independent artist or part of a team, our commitment to our craft unites us. Let’s promote positive discussions and dispel any unnecessary fear & negativity.
